Lake Erie Game Photos

September 15, 2009

This became a familiar scene for West Liberty football fans during Saturday’s 14th annual Alumni Scholarship Bowl against Lake Erie (Ohio) at Russek Field.

Hilltopper Sports Information Director Matt Watson got this picture of tailback Kevon Calhoun (34) breaking into the clear behind a crushing downfield block from offensive lineman Tim Ickes (71).

West Liberty rolled up more than 600 yards of total offense in a 62-28 rout of the NCAA Division II Storm.big block

The big plays came fast and furious throughout the afternoon for the high-powered Hilltopper offense, which averaged nearly 10 yards per snap and had six touchdown plays of 39 yards or more.

Calhoun posted his third straight 100-yard rushing game, scampering for 157 yards on just 12 carries. He also had the longest scoring play of the season for WLU when he raced 62 yards to paydirt on a screen pass from quarterback Zach Amedro.

Amedro went over the 300-yard passing mark for the third straight game, completing 24-of-36 passes for 397 yards and a career-high 6 touchdowns.

Junior wideout Kashif Walls had 7 catches for 196 yards and 3 TDs while Ryan Travis added 8 catches for 90 yards and 2 scores. Fellow wide receiver Eddie Hills caught 7 balls for 73 yards and a TD to go along with a season-high 69-yard kickoff return.

This week’s photo album from Matt Watson includes more than 100 photos from the game itself along with several shots of the Hall of Fame Class of 2009, which was officially inducted during a morning ceremony at the ASRC and received their commemorative plaques at halftime of the football game. Congratulations to Ashlea Bland-Minch, Kelly West, Greg Dailer, E.J. Burt and Brian Edison – the newest members of the West Liberty University Athletic Hall of Fame.
